Shooting - Day 3




I shot my scene in the warehouse, which is the second part of my production's dream sequence. My first attempt at this did not go as planned, and there were some problems with the cast, so I re-shot the day after, and edited the footage then.


Here, I also began doing the VFX for my project, which mostly involved some masking and a little bit of Rotoscoping to keep the order of my layers in check.


I then began editing a first rough cut of the first three scenes that I have shot. I now need to shoot my fourth and final scene, which is set in reality and consists of the police finding another body.

I will say that something I decided on instantly after being given the brief was that I wanted to pursue a fictional production, and would only really consider the alternative if my brain simply could not concoct a story that when transferred to paper wouldn't immediately take a one-way trip to the nearest bin. As of now, I am unsure which fictional world I wish to dive into; the brief does not specify a genre, although the channels (neither ITV or Channel 5 are particularly famous for their dramatic achievements) and their remits arguably do somewhat limit my options. Initial contemplations have steered me in the direction a crime drama - for I find it difficult to thin k of ITV drama without the word "Broadchurch" springing to mind - but I am yet to sit down and engage with a blank sheet of paper, known enemy of creativity though it is. Experimenting with Lighting 1

Lights... I have decided that for part of the AV section of my project I want my lighting to be heavily tinted. I have also decided that, while it would be possible to achieve this effect in post, I want to create the lighting effects on set. So, I set about experimenting with lighting at home. These are the results. Initial Tests For my very first tests, I went small. I used small lights, for example the torch on my iPhone and my desk light, from around my bedroom and took close-up pictures of the remote control for my stereo. To the right is one of my macro setups. Blue cellophane is covering my desk light, yellow cellophane is covering my iPhone torch, and red cellophane is covering a wind-up torch I found in a drawer.
